Nano Bucky: Hackathon Winner at University of Tehran Game Club

Nano Bucky is a platformer game developed during a hackathon organized by the University of Tehran Game Club 2017, where it secured first place. Created using Game Maker Studio, this project served as my introduction to game development. The game features a sci-fi narrative and challenging gameplay, blending inspiration from the Resident Evil universe with the fast-paced mechanics of Mega Man.

Narrative:
Set in a distant future, humanity faces a catastrophic virus outbreak. The only hope lies in Nano Bucky, a nanobot designed to infiltrate infected bodies and retrieve DNA codes from viruses. Players navigate through hazardous environments, culminating in intense boss fights to eliminate viral threats.

Key Features:

  • Classic Platformer Gameplay:
    • Fast-paced, skill-based platforming inspired by Mega Man.
    • Challenging levels that test player reflexes and strategy.
  • Sci-Fi Narrative:
    • An engaging storyline with a post-apocalyptic setting.
    • Players take control of a nanobot fighting viruses within infected bodies.
  • Boss Battles:
    • Epic encounters require precise timing and tactical gameplay.
    • Each boss presents unique attack patterns and challenges.

Development Process:

As my first-ever game, Nano Bucky was a prototype that laid the foundation for my game development journey. Key highlights include:

  • Learning and implementing mechanics in Game Maker Studio under tight hackathon constraints.
  • Designing levels, boss mechanics, and a cohesive narrative within a limited timeframe.
  • Collaborating with team members to refine the gameplay experience.
